Abstract
The influence of adenosine 3′, 5′-monophosphate (cyclic AMP) on the proliferation and differentiation of several cell types was indicated in the literature of the early 1970s (Pastan, Johnson & Anderson, 1975). An investigation of the cyclic AMP system in the epiderrnis appeared to be a reasonable approach for the development of new treatments for various proliferative skin diseases such as psoriasis. From the data available in the literature, an increase in the cyclic AMP concentrations in the tissue might decrease proliferation and induce differentiation.
