Abstract

The oil crisis of 1973 focused attention on the problem of energy resources but only recently, following the crisis in Iran, has there been discussion of the possibility of international conflict arising from scarcities in this field. A US Senate subcommittee report (quoted in the Guardian 16 April 1979), however, predicted a ‘fierce political and economic struggle’ among the industrial nations over scarce oil supplies.
