Abstract
The net advertising revenue of the companies (before levy) in the year ending 29 July 1965 was £82,619,000; in the following year it fell to £82,017,000, but thereafter rose to £89,945,000 in 1967 and £95,930,000 in 1968, (say £375 million in 1981 terms). The fall in 1966 could largely be accounted for by the Government’s decision to prohibit cigarette advertising on television which took effect on 1 August 1965.
