Wear Characteristics of PTFE-Metal Composites When Used under Machine Tool Slideway Conditions

The results of studies of the wear characteristics of PTFE-metal composites when sliding over cast iron are presented. The experiments are scaled so that the results are directly applicable to machine tool design. The results are quoted for dry sliding and lubricated conditions when a contaminated oil is used as an experimental control. The results are compared with the published data on alternative slideway interface combinations.
