Abstract
A simple and efficient pneumatic accelerating device which can be installed in a conventional press machine have been developed for easier application of the high energy rate metal forming. The compressed air enclosed in the cylinder is compressed further by the piston moving with the press ram and the highly compressed air accelerates the ram in the accelerating device, which strikes the forming tool.
By the experimental performance test using the prototype machine, the power loss is confirmed not to be big, because the enclosed air is not exhausted. And the accelerating device was successfully applied to high speed cropping of steel bar.
