Part of the Macmillan Technician Series book series

Throughout the systems described in chapter 2 and within the components and links described in chapters 3 and 4 are flowing a.c and d.c. signals. One task of the electrical and electronic technician is to detect, measure or identify these signals, using the appropriate measuring instrument or instruments. This chapter identifies the different types of signal and the correct instruments which can be used to measure the signal. A brief description of each instrument is then given, so that the technician can appreciate the reasons for using the chosen instrument and care should be taken because in some cases it is the instrument itself that can be faulty!
