Abstract

Many small molecules, natural ones and synthetic ones, act on biological membranes by controlling ionic channels in the membrane. Our research has focused on the channel associated with the acetylcholine receptor in the postsynaptic membrane of the nicotinic synapse. For several decades this junction has provided advances in our understanding of synaptic transmission.
