Abstract

The basic method for finding the true length of a straight line is best illustrated by reference to the projections of a square pyramid. Figure 5.1 shows two views of a square pyramid with one sloping edge emphasised by a heavy line. If the pyramid is rotated through 45° about its vertical axis, then the elevation shown in figure 5.2 gives the true length of the edge in question.
