Abstract
If any one date can be said to mark a turning-point in the history of internment it is to July. On that date the government held the first major debate on the subject in the House of Commons, and the swing in attitude is immediately apparent. The Dunera, with a cargo of some 2542 internees, set sail from Liverpool. And the third stage in general internment began.
