The Changing Dimensions of the Nigerian Business Environment and their Behavioural Implications

Abstract

Professional managers operating in many African countries are equipped with modern management know-how. Their organisations expect them to apply such know-how to management problems. An important class of problems faced by managers is that of relating particular organisations to their environments. The purpose of any business organisation, according to Drucker (1954), must lie outside the business. The objectives being pursued by organisations, as well as the resource inputs needed for production activities, are derived from the business environment. The outputs of an organisation are also traded with consumers, for some consideration, within the environment. Managers have to control the interactions between their organisations and the business environment in order to realise effective and efficient outcomes.
