Abstract

From The Journal of Arnold Bennett (New York: The Literary Guild, 1933) pp. 471–2. Enoch Arnold Bennett (1867–1931), journalist, novelist and playwright, had returned in 1912 from ten years’ residence in France, having reached the zenith of his popular success and critical esteem. This journal entry is dated 28 January 1913. Shaw was still debating with Belloc as late as 1925.
