From ‘Marriages of Black and White’, Daily Telegraph, 11 June 1935. Shaw revisited South Africa in May 1935 in the course of a voyage round the African continent. In this interview, given on his return to London, he began by speculating whether the climate inhibited the breeding of white settlers, quoting a government minister’s appeal for immigrants ‘to keep up the white population’.
