Abstract

I once went to him for advice when I felt there was nobody else I could consult. I knew him but little then. I wrote to him and he wired: ‘Come tonight’. We dined together. He was wise and practical with the knowledge and sympathy of a man who has both triumphed and suffered. I never, personally, found him less than generous.
