Abstract
Grateful as I am for such riveting information as that ‘Smim Htaw, brother of Takayutpi, king of Hanthawaddy: defeated by Bayinnaung of Toungoo; Tabinshwehti assassinated; empire collapses’, I suggest that no one human being can properly compass an encyclopedia of world history. It needs a committee, or at least two or three gathered together. I am astonished at how much the editor has managed to compass, what useful information we can pick up from this compilation, along with much that may be discarded in a second edition.1
