Abstract

In this chapter the Soviet SWR is discussed in a systematic way and the GDR system briefly. It has already been mentioned that the Soviet system is a classical, direct system and that it was used by other countries of the Soviet bloc until the second half of the 1960s more or less. Therefore the analysis of the Soviet system will be at the same time also an explanation of the system in other countries in the 1950s.

The price fixing authorities were hampered in their efforts by a directive that neither consumer prices nor the agricultural sector were to be adversely affected by the revision of wholesale prices. In addition the price authorities had to work with cost calculations of differing degrees of accuracy.
