Patterns of Residual Central Neural Lesions and Associated Disabilities

Abstract

In this chapter only those neural lesions causing physical disabilities which are the result of damage to brain, cerebellum and brainstem are considered. The selection criteria excluded patients whose head injuries had been complicated by spinal cord and brachial plexus injury. At the time of re-examination none had evidence of such an injury that had been overlooked. The term ‘central neural’ is obviously a personal one, but by using it the intention is to exclude at this stage disabilities due to cranial and other peripheral nerve lesions, and also traumatic personality change and impaired intellectual function. These are better considered separately (chapters 7 and 9).
