On Mr Milton’s Paradise lost

  • Michael Craze

Thus Marvell’s title was printed in the 1681 Folio of his Miscellaneous Poems. Thus Paradise lost was spelt on the nine different title pages of Milton’s first edition in 1667–9. In the second edition of 1674 the spelling became Paradise Lost and Marvell’s poem was headed On Paradise Lost. That was its first appearance in print and only the initials A. M. gave a clue to the identity of the author. It next appeared in the third edition of 1678.
