Abstract
In July 1653 Marvell and his Eton College pupil joined the Oxenbridges in their house at New Windsor. As it happened, John Oxenbridge had just been put on the London Commission for the government of the Bermudas. He was well qualified, having served for two tours as a minister on the main island between 1635 and 1641. Towards the end of the second, Jane Butler had sailed out from England to marry him; she was under twenty and delicate, but abundantly brave. Now they had four children and she was beginning to suffer from dropsy.
