Abstract
‘Ideology’ is a sub-set of ‘Attitude’, a term which is used in many different ways to cover a wide range of phenomena. It is sometimes hard to distinguish ‘attitudes’ from other concepts such as values, beliefs, ideas, opinions, or feelings. Ideology’ is also an ambiguous term. Hence, we begin with matters of definition. We can then consider psychiatric ideologies and their importance in psychiatric practice.
