Life’s Walking Shadows in A Passage to India
The moment I had been looking forward to for weeks approached and at 12.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 18 May 1966, I entered Forster’s rooms in King’s at Cambridge. I found Forster seated on the same sofa on which I had seen him several times a decade ago. As soon as Forster saw me, he got up and embraced me in the Indian style and I was overwhelmed by this affectionate gesture. We talked about our previous meetings and the letters we had exchanged.
