Abstract

Many of the skills you will be expected to develop through your work in this book will be acquired during the various Assignments which follow in the main body of the text — in Section 2. However, it is necessary for you to have a grasp of certain basic techniques before you progress to the Assignments. In this first section, therefore, we shall concentrate on the vital areas of fractions, decimals and percentages. We shall also pay attention to the subject of averages and, finally, look at ways in which business data might be represented visually. These techniques will then be developed further and treated at greater length during the course of the Assignments and other exercises which follow.
