Abstract
Blue and brown used to be combined only rarely in clothing design. Then the one thousand and second tale of the Arabian nights unfolded: one day in late 1973 the total wealth of Arabia was quadrupled. The redistribution of world purchasing power brought new influences to bear on fashion-making. Blue and brown are the colours of the desert. They are a traditional mix in oriental art, notably in Persian rugs. By 1977 the blue-and-brown combination had become popular even in Chicago, where blue and brown umbrellas were the season’s rage!
