Abstract
The war years and the post-war period prepared the way for the eventual integration of the German-Jewish refugees into British society as individuals and as a group. The process of integration was, of course, complex and extended over many years. It is certainly not possible to put precise dates to it. Refugee organizations and cultural associations played an important role in this process. Most of them were founded in the 1940s. Thus the structural foundations were laid for the consolidation of the German Jews as an ethnic group. But, as will be seen below, these organizations also helped to create links between the immigrants and the wider society.
