Part of the book series: Palgrave Historical and Political Facts ((PHPF))

Abstract

Since the Reformation, religion has been a source of disunity within the United Kingdom. There is today no state church for the United Kingdom, but there are separate and different state (sic.) churches for two of its parts: the episcopal Church of England, and the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. The absence of a state religion in Wales and Northern Ireland is a consequence of the historic importance of religious divisions within each territory.
