Abstract
The circulation area of printed and broadcasting media is not neatly defined by the boundaries of the United Kingdom. BBC and IBA programmes, as well as London-edited newspapers, penetrate the Republic of Ireland. Most of Northern Ireland can receive the broadcasts of RTE (Radio Telefis Eireann) and Dublin-printed newspapers circulate there. Within Scotland and Wales, there are locally-printed daily papers, and specially licensed commercial television stations, as well as distinctive institutions of the British Broadcasting Corporation. The London press is dominant in readership within Wales, but Welsh-language periodicals also circulate in the Principality.
