Abstract

To satisfy water demands, reservoir capacities can be calculated so that the lake runs dry only once in n years (see chapter 3). Choice of reservoir site is restricted not only to valleys capable of containing the required volume, but also to those whose use will cause least upheaval in the lifestyles and livelihoods of the local populace. The geological structure of the valley must be investigated. All these factors bear upon the economic considerations of choosing the best site for the new supply. These ideas should be applied not only to the initial consideration of the capital costs of construction but also to the running costs.
