Abstract

This phylum contains more than 50000 very diverse species, all of which have unicellular bodies. Although most species live as solitary individuals, there are many colonial forms. Protozoans occur in almost all moist habitats — in the sea, in freshwater, in the soil, and in the bodies of other animals.
