Developing Effective Systems

Abstract

There is growing need for systems development to be recognised as a corporate function in its own right. The day has gone when systems improvements dabbled on the fringes of the company’s operations. Today systems development encompasses the whole corporate fabric and can have significant effects on performance. Systems failures are usually given more limelight than successes, but the very nature of many current projects demands that the costs and effects of failure be examined. An organisation’s systems development programme should be an integral part of its corporate strategy. It is not enough only to consider what the organisation wants to achieve; it is vital to consider also how it is going to be done.
