Abstract
In this chapter a number of problems are studied in which bending is responsible for the main stresses. The method of approach is not purely from elasticity considerations, but rather ad hoc, which is often called ‘strength of materials’. It should be appreciated that actual conditions should comply with the assumptions made for the results of calculations to be accurate enough for design purposes.
