Contribution of Positional and Movement Cues to Visuomotor Reaching in Split-Brain Monkey

  • Chapter
Structure and Function of Cerebral Commissures

Abstract

Animal studies consistently report that commissurotomy has no effect on the visual guidance of the limb contralateral to the seeing hemisphere. In contrast, there are notable differences of opinion regarding the ipsilateral limb; some authors emphasise dyspraxias following the suppression of interhemispheric connections (Brinkman and Kuypers, 1973; Downer, 1959; Gazzaniga, 1963; Geschwind, 1965; Lund et al., 1970); others describe the motor deficits as transitory and slight, if not totally absent (Black and Myers, 1965; Hamilton, 1967; Myers et al., 1962).
