Abstract

A team of market researchers asked nearly 3000 people in the United States what things they feared most. To general surprise, it was not being physically attacked or going bankrupt, but the ordeal of speaking before a group which rated the highest vote of 41 per cent. Things like financial problems (22 per cent), sickness (19 per cent), dogs (11 per cent), loneliness (14 per cent) and bugs (22 per cent) were the chief fears of much smaller numbers.
