Abstract

In 1706 Yonge was the first obstetrician to use a suction apparatus attached to the foetal head as a successful method of extraction. In 1957 Malmström described an instrument which consists of a suction cup and a traction attachment. This has proved to be a great success and is extensively used, particularly in Europe, as a method of extraction of the foetus.
