Abstract
‘Sydney also possesses an artist of some note, we mean Mr. Rhodius who has been occupied by theFrench Government in engraving some of the edifices of Paris. Mr. Rhodius is very efficient inwater-colour, and his portraits of Natives and Scenery are much sought for by travellers.’—Dr. Lhotsky, writing for The Art Union in 1839 tactfully forbore to mention that the subject of his discourse was an ex-convict, and one who had still not received his certificate of freedom.
