Abstract

Professor Adam S. T. Thomson was appointed Head of the Department of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering and Applied Mechanics of the then Royal College of Science and Technology, Glasgow, in 1947. Under his guidance the department evolved into the Mechanical Engineering Group of departments of the University of Strathclyde, comprising Bioengineering, Dynamics and Control, Engineering Design and Drawing, Mechanics of Materials, Production Management and Manufacturing Technology, and Thermodynamics and Mechanics of Fluids.
