Summary

The selection and preparation of a polymer coating for use in perfusion over activated carbon are described. The coating selected is that of a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate. Reasons influencing the choice of monomers and their proportions in the optimum synthesis are discussed. Coating performance has been assessed in terms of creatinine removal and the ability to prevent unacceptable generation of fine carbon particles.
