Abstract

Recent developments in mass spectrometric technology and the availability of 13C-enriched substrates for clinical research have enabled the clinician to perform 13CO2 breath tests in patients with various diseases. Several research groups have compared 14CO2 and 13CO2 experiments in animals and man, and similar findings have been reported with both methods (Schoeller et al. 1975; Shreeve, 1973).
