Abstract

In the previous chapter some introductory comments were made about cost-benefit analysis (C.B.A.). There are now available several books and articles which will provide the interested reader with a detailed account of the theory and practice of C.B.A.1–6. However, since the valuation process described here is claimed to rest on cost-benefit analysis and some readers may not be familiar with the theory and concepts used, this chapter attempts to indicate briefly what C.B.A. is about and thereby set the framework for the rest of the book.
