The Alternator

For many years a simple form of alternator has been used on motor cycles to provide alternating current for direct supply to the lights. This avoids the need to carry a battery. More recently a more sophisticated system has come into use that employs a solid state rectifier to provide direct current to charge a battery. A simple control system is used.
