Abstract

An electrical machine is an electromechanical energy-convertor and consists of a magnetic circuit having two parts separated from each other by an air gap. The stationary part of the machine is known as the stator and the rotating part as the rotor. In the case of d.c. machines the fixed and rotating parts are usually referred to as the frame and armature respectively.
