Abstract

Symbol I. The ampere (unit symbol A) is the current that, when flowing in each of two infinitely long parallel conductors that are of negligible cross-section and are placed 1 m apart in a vacuum, produces between the conductors a force of 2 × 10−7 N (0.2μN) per metre length.
