Dear Sir,— A copy of the Irish Statesman of 29th September has been sent to me, and I find that it contains an interesting article on Synge by Sean O Faolain, but there are one or two sentences which are based on erroneous impressions. As Synge has already become an historical person, perhaps you will permit me to dot the i’s in places in which reference has been made to the little community of Irish people in Paris, of which Synge was one. I knew Synge before the Boer War, but I do not recollect ever seeing him after my return from South Africa to France, so that the mention—‘Colonel Arthur Lynch home from fighting the British in South Africa’—is not quite in order.
