Abstract
At the end of chapter 7 we indicated that some of the tedious manipulation of arrays can be avoided in BASIC because the language has a set of powerful matrix statements. In these statements the arrays are manipulated as mathematical objects in themselves, as opposed to being manipulated element by element (which was the concern of chapter 7). The operations that are possible in BASIC are those that are most common in the subject of matrix algebra; so this chapter assumes an elementary knowledge of that subject.
