Abstract
The surroundings in which we live are both natural and man-created. The air we breathe, the countryside with its soils and vegetation, the rivers and seas of the World and the animal life are all part of our natural environment. Man throughout the ages has adapted and created surroundings according to the needs of the times. Present-day man, through his quest for higher technology and because of political, economic and social advancement, has contaminated that natural environment, which is required for the very existence of life.
