Abstract

Let us take two vivid and hateful personages to remind us of differences between two writers who are in some ways akin, Dickens and Conrad. The first is that ‘flabby lump of mortality’ Rogue Riderhood; he has just been saved from drowning and Dickens takes us very close to him:
