Abstract

There are two common types of roof used for domestic buildings: gable-end roofs and hipped roofs, although it must be said that the latter has gone out of favour in recent years, because of its higher cost in materials and labour. Figures 8.1 and 8.2 show the difference in the construction of these roofs; the names of the various components are also given.
