Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe and analyze, by kinematic techniques, selected movements of the trunk and upper extremity as displayed by world-class crawl stroke swimmers engaged in competition. A principal task was the ascertainment of instantaneous angular velocity and acceleration characteristics of the underwater stroke. Joint action and stroke technique were described relative to these kinematic parameters which are derivatives of displacement data obtained through cinematographic techniques.
