This chapter is concerned with the binomial expansion and in particular its relevance to simple genetical problems and its use in obtaining approximations. The binomial distribution is mentioned. We also formalise the fact that (1 + 1/v) v approaches a limit as v → ∞. The chapter begins by introducing the factorial and Σ (sigma) notations and discussing some finite series.
