Barrow, containers and Morecambe: a polemic on regional planning

  • S. G. Sturmey

Three problems which currently face Britain are what to do about Barrow-in-Furness and the Furness Peninsula, whether to construct a barrage across Morecambe Bay and the implications of the increasing use of containers in ocean freight services. Considered together, however, it becomes clear that a simultaneous solution to all three problems is possible. Let us consider each in turn.
