Abstract

The introduction during recent years of routine open heart surgery and the upsurge of interest in organ transplants has introduced a whole new range of electronic equipment into the hospital. Much of this equipment is to be seen in the X-ray department. Thus medical electronic equipment is encountered being used in conjunction with X-ray equipment for two distinct reasons. Frequently it is employed to achieve a diagnostic result, for example, the electrocardiograph, direct blood pressure monitor and oximeter are used during cardiac catheterization procedures. Electronic equipment may also be included just to monitor or support the patient during long and hazardous investigations, for example, pulse monitors and automatic lung ventilators.
