Abstract
Bangladesh is a land of small family farms. There are about seven million farms, of which 92 per cent are less than 7.5 acres in size, accounting for about 70 per cent of the total farm area. More than half of the farms are owner-farms, the rest are owner-cum-tenant farms except a small percentage of pure tenant farms. About 25 per cent of the estimated 10 million rural households possess little or no land, depending primarily on wages earned from agricultural work.
